World Diabetes Day

Today is World Diabetes Day!  And I'm "Taking a Step for Diabetes" by helping to raise awareness of diabetes.  The International Diabetes Foundation has an informative video about the education and prevention of diabetes on this page of their site:  http://www.idf.org/worlddiabetesday/2009-2013

Did you know that blue is the color for diabetes?  The color blue was chosen, because it reflects the color of the sky and the flag of the United Nations.  That is why my background is blue today.  In the past, buildings and monuments were lit with brilliant, blue lights to promote this important day! Check out this video to see some spectacular examples:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vs0wKKGwoUY&feature=player_detailpage

So, why not "Take a Step for Diabetes" too?  This page contains a list of ways that you can take part:

  10. Blue is Mom's favorite color. Our human sister's sister-in-law has diabetes and it is having a very bad impact on her vision. We hope lots of money is donated so more research can be done.
